Domestic energy production increased by 34.4% - April-June, INSTAT: 21.5% less

Domestic electricity production recorded strong growth during the second quarter of this year, reducing the need for imports and significantly increasing exported energy. Data from the Institute of Statistics show that in the April-June period, net domestic production reached about 2,361 gWh, an increase of 34.4% compared to the same period last year, when it was 1,757 gWh.

This production was realized to the extent of 42.8% by public hydropower plants, 38.2% by private and concessionary hydropower plants and 19% by other producers. The strongest growth was recorded precisely in other renewable energy producers, which also include photovoltaic plants.

The better performance of domestic production was also reflected in foreign trade. Gross imports fell by 21.5%, to 569 gWh, while exports increased by 55.4%, reaching 991 gWh. As a result, the difference between exports and imports was positive by about 422 gWh.

On the other hand, consumption continued to grow. Electricity use by consumers reached 1,619 GWh or 6.2% more than a year earlier. Household consumption increased by 5.6%, while that of businesses and other non-household consumers by 6.9%.

As for network losses, they remained almost unchanged in quantity. However, their share of available energy decreased from 17.3% to 16.5%. Within this indicator, transmission losses increased by 20.4%, while distribution losses decreased by 3.1% compared to the second quarter of 2025.
