July increases fuel consumption - Over 75 thousand tons cleared, coffee and cigarette imports drop

The peak of the tourist season has also brought an increase in fuel imports and consumption, due to increased movements during the holiday period, the arrival of emigrants, and the increased flow of tourists visiting Albania.
Official data from the General Directorate of Customs shows that after several months of continuous decline due to the increase in oil prices, the month of July brought a change, causing the imported quantity to be higher than July 2025.
Specifically, during the past month, 75.7 thousand tons of fuel were cleared from customs, out of 70.9 thousand tons that were imported in July 2025, resulting in an increase of 4861 tons.
But despite the increase in July, it seems that the figures have not compensated for what has happened throughout the year.
If we make a 7-month comparison, it is noted that for January-July 2026, 407.9 thousand tons of fuel were imported, about 8,199 tons less than the same period a year ago.
Due to the conflict in the Middle East, March and the following months brought a significant increase in the price of oil and gasoline in the country, reaching levels of around 224 lekë/liter, prompting the establishment of the Transparency Board with the aim of setting ceiling prices for wholesale and retail sales. Prices stabilized in June and July, only to return to growth in August.
As for other excise goods, a decrease in imports during July 2026 is noted for cigarettes and coffee, and a slight increase for beer.
Specifically, 328 tons of cigarettes were imported, a decrease of 75 tons compared to July 2025, and 591 tons of coffee, which also results in a decrease of 242 tons compared to July last year.
Beer imports have increased, with 8 thousand tons cleared through customs, up from 7.7 thousand tons in July 2025.
While as a 7-month period, imports of cigarettes and coffee resulted in a slight increase and beer resulted in a decrease.
