"Radar" on the prices of basket goods for the end-of-year holidays - Competition Authority, aiming to prevent unjustified increases

The Competition Authority has been monitoring the basket goods market for 2 days, which will last until January 15, focusing particularly on the end-of-year holiday period. The purpose of this monitoring is to examine price developments and the behavior of businesses along the supply and sales chain, in order to prevent any unjustified price increases that may result from trade coordination or prohibited agreements between distributors, wholesalers and supermarket chains.
This process includes basic consumer basket goods, such as pasta, rice, flour, eggs, sugar, cooking oil, and soft drinks.
The Authority emphasizes that any agreement or coordinated practice that leads to the distortion of competition, especially through increased prices for consumers, constitutes a violation of the Law "On the Protection of Competition" and will be treated with maximum seriousness.
In this context, the Competition Authority calls on all businesses operating in these markets to respect the rules of fair competition and to avoid any behavior that may harm the normal functioning of the market.
Monitoring will continue on an ongoing basis, and the public will be notified of any findings or measures that may be taken upon its completion.
