Preparing for the job market, the British Embassy funds professional courses for prisoners at Fier Penitentiary Institution
The British Embassy in Tirana is funding the establishment of vocational courses for prisoners. Special facilities have been built in Fier prison for an electrical installation course, with the aim of equipping prisoners with the necessary skills for the job market. The news was announced by the Director General of Prisons, Klevis Qose, through a post on social networks.
“Today at the Fier Penitentiary Institution we had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Julia Sutherland, Deputy Ambassador of Great Britain, Mr. John Walker, Second Secretary, as well as Ms. Rovena Demaj, Project Manager at the British Embassy.
This visit was also attended by three directors of other penitentiary institutions, who came to see closely the projects implemented in Fier and to obtain models that can be adapted to the institutions they run.
The gym and special facilities for the development of professional courses, such as the one for electrical installations, have been funded by the British Government through the British Embassy in Tirana, as part of their ongoing support for improving conditions in the penitentiary system and strengthening the rehabilitation component.
These courses equip prisoners with the skills needed for the job market and give them a concrete opportunity to build a different future. The certificates issued upon completion have the same value as those obtained outside prison, as the document does not specify the place where the course was held.
"Thank you to the British Embassy for this significant contribution and for the continued partnership towards the humanization and modernization of the correctional system," Qose wrote on Facebook.
