With a bid of 1.97 billion lekë, the Albanian Road Authority has announced the winning company for the third phase of the Tirana-Durrës highway expansion. The contract was won by the company Alb-Building, while 13 other companies participated in the competition, 7 of which were disqualified.

This phase includes the construction of the junction connecting the Laknas road to the highway expansion project, while the tender documents specified that the area where this project is required to be implemented is an area with high industrial development and, more recently, with significant urban development.

"The existing road, apart from being in poor condition of the asphalt layers, does not have direct access to the main Tirana-Durres axis. Currently, the connection to this axis is realized through parallel roads (which are heavily trafficked most of the day) with the Kamza Turnpike junction at a distance of about 2200 m in the direction of Tirana," - it was stated, among other things, in the tender documents.

Currently, work is underway to expand the highway in the first 5 km, which start shortly after passing the Kamza turnoff, until the Rinas overpass, and according to public statements, the goal is to complete them in December of this year.

The intervention on the Tirana - Durrës highway is intended to bring an improvement in traffic, which currently presents numerous problems.
