Floating TPPs will be converted to gas/ Program: 3 interventions with a focus on natural gas, the Vlora TPP and the gasification of Korça
The government foresees three interventions with a focus on natural gas in the energy sector for the period 2025–2029. The government program, which has already been published in the Official Gazette, highlights the conversion of the Vlora TPP from oil to natural gas, making available around 250 MW of new production capacity. The document also reconfirms the plan to connect this energy project to the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which, as previously announced, aims to bring about a sustainable supply of cleaner fuel and lower operating costs.
The second intervention is related to the floating TECs, located in Triport and near the Vlora TEC. According to the government program, their conversion from oil to natural gas is intended, which suggests that these plants will continue to remain in our country. These TECs were leased for a 2-year period from the moment they started operating, while according to the data, their start-up took place at the beginning of 2024. This means that there are still a few months left until the end of the lease contract, for which financial obligations of 63,000 USD daily rent and 31,500 USD daily operating and maintenance costs of the asset are foreseen.
Meanwhile, the third project is the gasification of the city of Korça. According to the program, investments for this project are expected to be over 50 million euros in the transmission and distribution network.
