"Pensions will increase from January" - Rama: Urban pension with full

Prime Minister Edi Rama held a year-end conference with journalists where he summarized the work of the year that has just ended, as well as the projects for 2026. According to him, this year is expected to end with an economic growth of 3.9%. The Head of the Executive stated that the pension increase will begin in January.

" Starting in January, pensions will increase as I have said before and as has been explained at length by the relevant ministers, beyond indexation, so indexation is not an increase in pensions in the sense we are talking about, but it is a mechanism related to prices, while the increase that we will make will be significant year after year. And so the urban pension with full years of work, starting in January, will increase by 18 thousand old lek per month, which will double in January 2027, triple in January 2028 and quadruple in January 2029 and so on and this applies to all the figures that I will give;

The partial urban pension will increase by 8,000 lek per month, the rural pension will increase by 1,000 lek per month, the family pension will increase by 700 lek per month, the disability pension will increase by 600 lek per month and so on."

Asked by SCAN TV about energy projects, the Prime Minister emphasized that today we have 700 megawatts produced by solar energy and 400 megawatts installed by self-producers, which in total is 1200 megawatts plus in Albania's portfolio.

Regarding infrastructure, Rama considered the Llogara Tunnel a super success and also listed other investments in this sector.

Finally, this year, the Murriz Tunnel, the "evil eye tunnel", was opened, and in the meantime, what is worth highlighting is the work done on the railways. This year, funding was secured for the Vorë-Hani i Hotit line, 350 million euros have been given to Albania. The consolidation of the 8th railway corridor, a project of great regional importance, has continued. The Durrës-Rrogozhinë segment has been supported with 120 million euros, while the detailed design phase for the Rrogozhinë-Pogradec segment is nearing completion.

At the same time, the foundations for other strategic projects have been laid: the Porto Romano-Sukth-Rrogozhinë-Vlora railway lines and the connection to the Vlora airport, as well as the Durrës-Prishtina line, which is being worked on with the Government of Kosovo.

As a result of the increase in revenue from taxes and customs duties, the state budget has 628 billion lek in state revenue.

Meanwhile, as you know, several new policies have been approved, both regarding the fiscal package with the Fiscal Peace Agreement and the draft law on the forgiveness of arrears of tax and customs duties, and regarding the new 10% VAT compensation scheme for farmers based on the best practices of the European Union.

According to Prime Minister Edi Rama, increased funding for the defense sector will continue in 2026, where, according to him, Albania will produce combat drones, anti-drone systems and the first orders have been placed. Meanwhile, in the first 6 months, according to the Prime Minister, the first products are expected to be seen.
