The application of the new electricity price begins, Balluku: Concrete measures

February marked the beginning of the application of the new electricity price for household subscribers, divided into two categories, 8.5 lek per kilowatt for subscribers consuming up to 700 kilowatt-hours and 9.5 lek for all those who exceed this figure.

The electricity meter reader plays an important role in this entire process. Therefore, OSHEE has undertaken a series of measures in order to guarantee the most correct and timely billing for every subscriber.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, accompanied by the Administrator of OSHEE, Enea Karakaçi, and that of OSSH, Blendian Dalipi, inspected in the field part of the work being done by energy meter readers, to provide citizens with fair billing.

"This is a very important process. We have issued a special order where we have referenced all the dynamics of the reading process, the relevant dates when the reading begins, as well as including what the penalties are, but also how we resolve it if the consumption is over 700 kilowatts. We have requested that every consumption over 700 kilowatts have its own transparent photo so that we can be even closer to customers for any complaints they may have," explained Karakaçi.

In addition to the photo of the meter, the reader will also send his location in order to avoid abuses. "From this month onwards, filters have been added for billing reading, which means that if a photo of the meter is not clear to the operators in the system, this reading will not pass for billing, but the reader is asked once again to return and re-verify it. Photos sent to the system, along with geolocation, must be 100% secure so that we can confirm that the meter reading corresponds to the system reading", Dalipi announced.

Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said that all measures have been taken to make the process as fair as possible. The entire process of reading energy meters must be completed within 8 days, considering a 30-day calendar period for each subscriber.

"This is the first month that we will apply the price, but on the other hand, the entire procedure is designed from beginning to end to be transparent. Based on an order from the general administrator of the company, OSHEE, the measurement must be done within 8 days and the measurement is from 30 days to 30 days. So, 30 days will not pass, thus making the measurement method and its accuracy undisputed," declared Balluku.

Nearly 1 million household subscribers across the country benefit from the reduction in energy prices by almost 10.5%, said Balluku, emphasizing that energy saving remains an important factor in this entire process.

"The reason why we decided to apply a lower price according to consumption categories, 8.5 lekë for consumption from 0 to 700 kilowatt/hour, is because we seek to sensitize the entire population, all family members who benefit from this package of over 1 million subscribers, that energy is a very important commodity, which must be saved. Of course, its use is necessary in everyday life, but saving is even more important because of all the conditions we have, hydroelectric power plants, dependence on the weather", underlined the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.
