Around 115 million MWh of energy was traded on the Albanian Electricity Exchange during January of this year, with the value of transactions estimated at around 33.8 million euros.

According to the Day-Ahead Market data reported by ALPEX, the average price was recorded at 146.43 euros/mWh, a price 68% higher than in January last year. The price comparison only concerns the Albanian bidding zone, as the unification of the Albania-Kosovo energy markets started in February 2024.

Meanwhile, ALPEX has also reported the figures for the Intraday Auction Market, which began operating in December last year. Thus, for the month of January, a total volume of 794.33 mWh of electricity was traded on this ALPEX market, with an average clearing price of 210.61 euros/mWh.

ALPEX itself has considered the launch of same-day auctions an achievement and an important step forward in the regional electricity market, strengthening cross-border trade and market integration.

According to APLEX, Albania and Kosovo now have an additional market mechanism, similar to those of European Union countries, placing these markets at the forefront of the Energy Community.

The Albanian Electricity Exchange, ALPEX, began operations on April 11, 2023, as its operation presents a number of advantages related to competitive prices, as well as providing a transparent price signal for energy investments.
