Social assistance, number of beneficiaries decreases - Over 3 thousand families

The number of beneficiaries of economic assistance has decreased throughout the current year. In the period January-February, the number of families in the scheme was 46,096, gradually decreasing to 43,047 beneficiaries, i.e. 3,049 fewer families included in the support schemes.

Meanwhile, for beneficiary individuals there is a slight increase, from 2694 in the period January-February, to 2844 in the period July-August, i.e. 150 more individuals.

Even regarding electricity compensation, from January to August there are 1,405 fewer beneficiary families. This entire reduction in economic aid beneficiaries has saved the state budget 65 million lek.

In terms of geographical distribution, the Elbasan region holds the first place for the largest number of beneficiaries, with over 10 thousand families registered at the beginning of the year, although with a slight decrease in recent months.
In second place is Dibra, followed by Kukës and Korça. On the other hand, Gjirokastra, Durrës and Berat are the regions with the lowest number of beneficiary families, reflecting a more stable economic situation.

Last year, the state budget allocated around 15.489 billion lek for economic assistance. Meanwhile, this year, a slight increase is expected, with the projected fund reaching 15.539 billion lek, and in the first 8 months of 2025 alone, 14.746 billion lek have been spent.

The Economic Assistance Scheme remains the main pillar of social protection in the country. It aims to mitigate and alleviate poverty, by providing financial and social support to families and individuals in need, as well as to help them reintegrate into economic and social life.
In recent years, the government has undertaken a series of initiatives to reduce poverty through increased employment, vocational training courses and the development of new skills for beneficiaries of the assistance.

The scheme's regulations state that an individual who refuses to participate in vocational training courses or does not accept employment offers offered by employment offices is automatically excluded from benefiting from economic assistance. Likewise, persons who do not register as unemployed job seekers or self-employed in the official system are excluded from the scheme.
