Monitoring the fuel market/ Ministry of Finance establishes a joint Task Force between Taxes and Customs

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, held a meeting with the Director General of Taxes, Ilir Binaj, and the Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, where the operational plan for the establishment of a joint Task Force between the two institutions was agreed upon.
This Task Force will focus on increasing tax and customs control and efficiency in the hydrocarbon sector, both in wholesale and retail trade, in order to avoid abusive increases in fuel trading prices and thus protect Albanian citizens.
The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, emphasized that this operational plan also comes in the context of recent international developments, which have affected hydrocarbon prices.
"We have taken the opportunity to establish this operational group, starting from the latest conflict between Iran, the US and Israel, a conflict that has affected hydrocarbon prices. Prices will be monitored by these two institutions, so that we do not have abusive increases in the wholesale or retail hydrocarbon trading sector. Today we have agreed on the steps that will be followed by these two institutions, starting from the risk assessment of operators operating in this sector, but on the other hand also by receiving information from the market regarding potential abuses that may occur. The control will focus not only on the control of customs or tax documentation, but also on the physical control of the quantities of hydrocarbons traded by wholesale and retail trading points ", said the Minister.
The Ministry of Finance, Malaj emphasized, remains committed to good tax and customs administration and always for the benefit of Albanian citizens.
For his part, the Director General of Customs, Besmir Beja, announced that controls will be extended to the entire territory of the country, based on entities identified as at risk.
According to him, joint control groups will be established with the General Directorate of Taxes to guarantee that the activities of entities are carried out in accordance with the law, as well as that every sale is fiscally registered and the traded fuel meets all customs and tax obligations.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Taxes, Ilir Binaj, stated that the institutions have coordinated the operational plan and have begun risk analysis.
He emphasized that experiences from previous operations have helped identify concrete problems in this sector, while the objective is for the operation to be extended over a long period of time, with the aim of increasing formalization and guaranteeing the regular functioning of the hydrocarbons market.
