Price for energy producers - Decision for 2026, the state will buy them at 10 lek/kWh

Electricity produced by priority producers will be purchased by the state at the price of 10 lek/kWh even during 2026. The Energy Regulatory Authority has approved the relevant decision, leaving the value applied during the last 2 years unchanged.
According to the ERE, the price has been determined based on the methodology in force and represents the maximum level that can be applied to these producers, in accordance with current legislation. In fact, from the preliminary data published by the Hungarian Power Exchange (HUPX) and based on the approved formula, the calculated price results in 12.53 lek/kWh.
Meanwhile, if the average clearing prices of the Albanian energy exchange ALPEX are taken as a reference, the value that the state would have to pay to priority producers amounts to 13.99 lek/kWh. However, a decision of the Council of Ministers is in force, which determines that the purchase price cannot exceed the ceiling of 10 lek/kWh. This ceiling was increased in February 2024, since until that period it was 8.5 lek per kilowatt hour.
Previously, members of the Regulatory Entity's board have emphasized that this value guarantees the economic sustainability of existing priority producers.
The category of priority producers includes hydroelectric power plants with an installed capacity of up to 15 MW. The ERE's decision is based on the prices of organized energy markets, as well as on the bonus foreseen for the promotion of renewable sources, but in any case respects the maximum limit set by the government.
