Polluted air in Skopje - Critical threshold exceeded in some areas,

The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning has announced that at several measuring points in Skopje, the critical threshold for suspended particles with a size of up to 10 micrometers (over 150 micrograms/m³) has been exceeded for two consecutive days. This concerns the central part and other areas such as Gazi Baba, Karposh, Lisice and Rectorate.

The Ministry has issued a series of recommendations to address the situation. It calls for intensified inspection supervision of installations with Integrated Ecological Permit type A, as well as on-site inspections of installations with Integrated Ecological Permit type B and Elaborate. Installations with continuous monitoring should provide public access to measured data.

The ministry also recommends intensifying technical inspections of vehicles, especially those with internal combustion engines and unregistered vehicles, as well as inspecting construction sites.

Employers are advised to dismiss pregnant women, people over 60 years of age, and those with chronic illnesses such as asthma, previous myocardial infarction, or stroke, upon the recommendation of a doctor. It is also recommended to reorganize working hours, with employees working in open spaces performing activities from 11:00 to 17:00.

The ministry also suggests not organizing sports competitions or cultural events in open spaces until the situation improves.

In this way, citizens and institutions are warned about the risk of air pollution and must take measures to protect public health.
