Over 20 measures for energy efficiency - Heating and cooling of buildings, about 33% of final energy consumption in the country

The implementation of over 20 measures to improve energy efficiency in heating and cooling of buildings requires around 4.7 million euros by 2030, while real investments for building renovation are estimated at billions of euros by 2050. Everything is evidenced in the Commitment Document for the decarbonization of this sector, submitted a few weeks ago to the Energy Community by the Albanian government.
According to the document, the main interventions are related to the energy renovation of buildings, improving efficiency standards and increasing the use of renewable energies for heating and cooling.
One of the most ambitious programs is the energy renovation of residential buildings, which according to estimates may require up to 17.86 billion euros in investments by 2050. In parallel, a cost of about 1.61 billion euros is foreseen for the renovation of public and municipal buildings, while for private service and commercial buildings, investments may reach up to 5.75 billion euros.
Meanwhile, about 4.7 million euros are required by 2030 for institutional, planning and support measures, including support schemes for renovation and renewable energy in buildings, preparation of heating maps at the municipal level, creation of “one-stop shops” for energy efficiency, etc.
The heating and cooling sector in our country accounts for about one third of the final energy consumption in the country, while renewable sources currently cover only 22–23% of this demand.
