Malaj: Formalization and declaration of real wages, fundamental for economic development and social security of employees

The Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, held a meeting with representatives of entities operating in the construction sector in Shëngjin, Lezha, accompanied by the Director General of Taxes, Ilir Binaj.
During this meeting, issues and problems related to the development of the construction sector in this region were discussed, as well as the progress of the Tax Administration's implementation of the operational plan for this sector, the focus of which is the formalization of the sector, increasing the declaration of real wages and fulfilling all legal obligations.
Minister Malaj emphasized that construction constitutes one of the most important economic sectors of the country, including related activities, and as such must be supported on a strong basis of formalization and fulfillment of tax obligations, and not only that.
In this context, the Minister said that the declaration of real wages is also very important, as a key element for sustainable economic development, increasing budget revenues and guaranteeing pensions and social security for employees.
Referring to the data, the Lezha region has had a positive reflection regarding salaries in the 100,001 - 120,000 lekë range, with an increase of 134%, which confirms that real salaries in this sector are higher than declared. Even at the national level, changes in declarations have been observed, where the under-declaration of minimum salaries has decreased and there has been a real shift of employees towards higher salary ranges, especially in the 70,001 - 100,000 lekë range,
This process has also brought about an increase in revenue from contributions and employment income tax, as a result of increased accuracy rather than an increase in taxes.
The government's goal, said Mr. Malaj, is not to increase the fiscal burden on business, but to support and facilitate it, and in this sense, the existing burden must be distributed fairly, so that those who are correct are not penalized by those who are not.
The Minister emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation between state institutions and business, with the aim of improving the business climate, increasing formalization and supporting the country's economic development.
