"May fruit and vegetables will be 40% more expensive"! - Rrapaj: Price increase due to weather conditions and war

Domestic and imported fruits and vegetables have been sold at higher prices in recent days. In an interview with SCAN TV, the Chairman of the Albanian Agribusiness Council, Agim Rrapaj, explains that as far as domestic production is concerned, the cause has been floods and frosts at the beginning of the year, as well as the war, which has a psychological effect and leads to price increases.
"For domestic production, the difficult weather conditions in January, frost and rain, caused products to dry out in greenhouses and in the field. Floods affected approximately 40% of total production. This caused production to be halted and we had the supply that farmers had anticipated. The moment domestic production leaves room for imports, then imports occupy the market. The second is the situation created by the war, which has a psychological impact, as traders, thinking they are losing income, increase prices."
According to Rrapaj, the production of the season that comes out in May-June is expected to be up to 40 percent more expensive.
"It is predicted that prices will increase as a result of the decrease in market supply and the disruption of the import-export ratio, the increase in the price of inputs that are necessary for agricultural production. The same will happen with livestock, some products will be 30-40 percent more expensive. Vegetables, fruits, cereals, livestock products, etc."
Citizens have recently been faced with unusual prices for products in the country, which directly affects the increase in food expenses.
