Drinking water and waste/ Rama: National operators for management
Prime Minister Edi Rama today announced intervention in the management of the Tirana Water Supply, through the National Water Operator, which has been redesigned and is expected to be put into operation soon.
At a meeting with Tirana's socialist ministers and MPs, the head of government said that the drinking water problem is related to mismanagement and requires a deep reform.
"The creation of a national operator has begun to take shape, which will function in the same way as the energy distribution operator. Municipalities will be shareholders, but the company will be led on the basis of professionalism, not political affiliation," Rama said.
The Prime Minister also announced the creation of a national authority for waste treatment. He explained that while waste collection will remain the responsibility of municipalities, treatment will be moved to a central level to ensure higher standards.
"Citizens are concerned about waste collection and treatment. The process of creating a national authority is necessary, although the level of cleaning has improved, it is still not at the proper level," Rama said.
