"Research for critical minerals in Albania" - Rules for exploration and discovery change, innovation also for environmental rehabilitation

Exploration permits will be granted through an open procedure for all areas for which there is no geological information or in those areas for which there is geological information, but there is interest in more detailed study and higher reliability regarding the data for the area.
This is one of the changes provided for in the law "On the mining sector", which, according to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Besjan Kadiu, aims to promote and encourage exploration activities to increase the potential of mineral reserves, especially those in short supply in the region and in the EU.
Another change concerns the setting of a time limit for the suspension of activity, due to various problems that mining companies may encounter.
The draft law defines the right to request a suspension of up to 1 year. Changes are also foreseen in terms of the guarantee paid by companies that carry out mining activities for the environmental rehabilitation of the area.
Likewise, the mining law has provided for the obligation of companies, at the end of the permit period, to rehabilitate the area in which they have carried out their activities, but there is no set deadline for how long this rehabilitation must be carried out.
For this reason, this draft law provides for a period of up to 18 months for the completion of rehabilitation. If the mining permit holder has abandoned the permit area for 18 months, the deposited rehabilitation guarantee is transferred to the state.
