A Tirana resident holds 1.1 million lek in bank deposits - The capital, the highest average savings per capita. Elbasan, the last in the country

A citizen of Tirana holds an average of 1.1 million lekë in a bank deposit. According to an analysis conducted by Scan Television, calculating the amount of deposits in the third quarter of this year with the population by region from the 2023 Census, Tirana leads with the highest per capita bank savings.
In second place is Vlora with 730 thousand lek in savings that a resident holds on average in the bank, and Durrës with 574 thousand lek.
On the other hand, Elbasan and Fier have the lowest value of deposits per capita, with only 327 thousand lek and 332 thousand lek in savings per capita on average. This indicator may be related to lower incomes in these two regions or a greater propensity for consumption in the case of Fier, but not Elbasan.
But why does Tirana have the highest amount of deposits per capita?
The tendency to save is a factor, but the higher level of income in the capital, easier access to the banking system and the greater presence of remittances also affect
This is only a rough average, as each citizen deposits different amounts of money in the bank and there has been a slight decline in the population since the 2023 Census, through whose figures the amount of deposits per capita was calculated.
In the third quarter of 2025, there was an increase in the amount of deposits in each of the country's regions. Despite the fact that the majority of the population and economic activity is concentrated in Tirana, Lezha turns out to be the region with the highest growth in savings in the July-September period, around 6%, followed by Vlora with 5.6%.
Meanwhile, Elbasan is the region that has recorded the lowest growth in deposits with only 1% and Fier 1.6%.
Deposits in foreign currency, mainly euros, continue to dominate over those in lek.
