"339 people from 51 families have been evacuated" - Prime Minister Rama convenes the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Civil Emergencies
Prime Minister Edi Rama, this morning, convened the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Civil Emergencies to take stock of the floods resulting from the recent rainfall. According to data, 13,211 ha of agricultural land and 1,587 homes have been flooded so far. While emphasizing that 339 people from 51 families have been evacuated so far, Prime Minister Rama guaranteed that every person affected will receive compensation.
According to the head of the executive, the amount of rainfall has been extraordinary, up to 300 mm, or in other words, more than the average amount that falls throughout the month. "The average 30-day rainfall of January has fallen in a 4-day period, a phenomenon that is becoming unexpected all over the world," said Rama.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, said that the problem has only been on rural roads, which she said are the responsibility of the respective municipalities to maintain. According to her, the fact that there have been many fires in Albania and there is a lack of vegetation in the south has made the situation more challenging for road maintenance.
For his part, Finance Minister Petrit Malaj said that the total value of the flood situation in the country is over 50 million euros, of which 15 million euros go to compensation.
