Vehicle imports fall by 7% - 57 thousand cars cleared customs in the first 7 months of the year
In the first seven months of the year, around 57 thousand vehicles were cleared through Albanian ports, marking a decrease compared to the previous year. According to data from the General Directorate of Road Transport and Services (Graph.1), during the period January-July, imports decreased by almost 7%.
The decline has become more noticeable in the summer months, especially in June and July. One of the main reasons is that many importers have already filled their warehouses with vehicles from last year's imports and are waiting to sell existing stocks before bringing in new ones. Also, the summer season, characterized by holidays, traditionally brings a slowdown in the pace of sales.
Another contributing factor was the tense situation in the Middle East, which affected supply chains for vehicles coming from China and South Korea. This translated into higher transportation costs and delays in the arrival of goods.
In terms of vehicle origin, South Korea continues to hold first place, widening the gap with European countries. In the first seven months of the year alone, around 11,800 vehicles were imported from this country. In second place is Italy with around 9,000 units, followed by Germany and Switzerland.
