Over 3.3 billion euros spent in 6 months - How was the money distributed? Pensions take the most, the environment comes last
Total state budget expenditures for the first half of the year are recorded at approximately 333 billion lek or approximately 3.33 billion euros. Compared to the same period last year, expenditures have increased by 42 billion lek.
But how was this money distributed across different categories and which sectors received the most?
Detailed official data from the Bank of Albania for the first 6 months of the year show that out of 10 categories in total, social protection is the one that takes the largest share of the "pie" from the budget, where for the period January-June, expenditures for this category are recorded at approximately 111.4 billion lek.
Social protection includes pensions, as well as all payments provided by the Social Security Institute to a range of beneficiaries.
General public services are listed in second place, where about 62.5 billion lek were spent in 6 months, an item that also includes capital investments.
Education also has a significant share, as expenditures for this sector are recorded at 39.3 billion lek, a figure that also includes teachers' salaries.
Around 36.1 billion lek have been spent on healthcare, which in addition to investments in buildings, also includes salaries and bonuses for white shirts.
Economic issues have received a budget of 25.4 billion lek in 6 months, which in addition to unemployment payments and economic assistance, also includes grants given to support businesses.
Public order and security have received a budget of 23 billion lek, which also covers the monthly salaries of blue uniforms. 17.6 billion lek have been allocated for housing and community amenities. On the other hand, 8.5 billion lek have gone to the defense sector, which includes the salaries of military personnel.
