Albania, with artificial intelligence factories - From saving people's lives to agricultural production on farms. How will AI be invested in?
From saving people's lives in hospitals to increasing agricultural production on farms, Albania aims to use artificial intelligence in every area of daily life.
The "National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025-2030 and Action Plan" has been published for public consultation, which foresees the implementation of artificial intelligence in health, agriculture, transport, environment, public administration, education, tourism and culture.
The Albanian government has future plans to integrate artificial intelligence into radiology, with the aim of saving lives. Specifically, AI components will be incorporated into the Radiology System to assist doctors in examining medical images. This will enable early detection of diseases, increase diagnostic accuracy, and ultimately save lives through faster and more targeted interventions.
Second, agriculture. The artificial intelligence system will be trained using a combination of historical agricultural data, meteorological data and satellite imagery to predict crop quantity and quality, as well as identify potential risks such as floods or droughts. This initiative places Albania among the first three countries in the world to adopt such a model.
By combining agricultural field and weather data, artificial intelligence can predict which farmlands need water and fertilizer, and make the necessary adjustments accordingly.
According to the Strategy, artificial intelligence will also enable autonomous (driverless) transportation. Also, by analyzing mobile phone location data while maintaining anonymity, it is possible to predict traffic flow and design better urban spaces and infrastructure.
Our country will establish Artificial Intelligence Factories, as dynamic innovation centers, which will serve the testing and implementation of AI solutions tailored to the country's public administration and beyond.
Currently, Albania has a shortage of artificial intelligence specialists and researchers. Most of the advanced expertise is concentrated in the diaspora or abroad. Therefore, to achieve these and many more, the country aims to attract these talents and invest in computer infrastructure.
