The railway will be divided into two companies - The draft law receives agreement in the parliamentary committee amid debates
The division of the "Albanian Railways" company into 2 companies was accompanied by strong debates during the discussion of the draft law in the Parliamentary Committee on Production Activities.
The opposition deputies brought to attention the law approved in 2021 for the creation of 4 new companies, while the government representatives explained the reasons that, according to them, led to the proposal of a new law.
There were also debates regarding the current employees of the Albanian Railways, who according to the opposition MPs were paid without performing any work, given that there are currently no functional railways.
Meanwhile, Muçaj explained that the reason for keeping the personnel at work is the plans for the recovery of the sector.
According to the draft law, approved by the committee with the majority votes, "Albanian Railway" will be divided into two host companies.
The first is the railway infrastructure joint stock company, which will be the infrastructure administrator.
Meanwhile, the second will be the railway joint-stock company for the transportation of passengers and goods, as well as for the maintenance of rolling stock.
