Vital minimum at 200 euros/month? - The government rejects the initiative. Spahiu: We don't have a budget
The proposal of the opposition to establish the minimum living wage in Albania in the amount of 200 euros per month, in order to avoid extreme poverty in the country, has sparked debates in the committee for Labor and Social Affairs. The Council of Ministers, in the response sent to the commission, rejected this initiative with the argument that there is no proper study to undertake this step.
Albana Vokshi, Deputy of DP:
"The proposal was made by a group of 14 deputies. You violated the 520 day regulation and kept this proposal of the opposition in the drawer. This is a violation of the constitution and it has not yet been entered into the procedure".
Klodiana Spahiu, Deputy of SP:
"There is a calculation that shows that it is a budget twice as high as that of 2024 to solve the issue of the minimum wage, so we have solved it in another issue. There is an overlap because we have passed a number of social protection laws. And the definition of a living minimum would require a radical change of a large part of the legal acts. In order to cover the needy classes, for 11 years we have been thinking of increasing the minimum wage, the unemployment payment, a social pension for those who do not have ".
According to the opposition, the lack of a study is an excuse, since the methodology was done by the People's Advocate a few years ago, where the result was indexed to arrive at a final figure.
