Accident bill - AMF: Insurance companies pay an average of 175 thousand lek for motor vehicle damages

An insurance company has paid an average of 175 thousand lek for damages suffered by cars in accidents or other events. According to the Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF), the average damage paid in January-July 2026 has increased by almost 4.3% compared to the same period last year.
This increase in damage payments is a direct result of the increase in road accidents. This fact is also confirmed by INSTAT figures, which show that in January-July of this year there were 110 or 10% more accidents than in the same seven-month period of 2025.
Among all motor insurance products, only the domestic MTPL, which is mandatory, has seen an increase in the average claim value, while the Casco, border and Green Card insurances have resulted in a decrease in claim payments. So, there have not been many cases of accidents involving cars with Albanian license plates going abroad or those with foreign license plates entering Albanian territory.
If we compare it with the average life insurance claim, the latter has decreased by almost 8%. So, about 91 thousand lekë results to have been paid by an insurance company for cases of loss of life or health problems.
As this Monday has also started with a tragic balance on the country's roads, with two dead and nine injured as a result of the collision, these events show us once again how important insurance is, not that the latter can save lives, as this depends on the care that each driver shows when driving, but at least it covers the costs of damages from such an event.
