What do investors want from Europe? - Economic Summit in Tirana/ "The EU needs to wake up, there is bureaucracy"
Businessmen and politicians from Europe and the world have raised the concerns that businesses face when investing in this continent.
At the International Economic Summit in Tirana, on the topic "The Future of Investment in Europe", businessman Samir Mane focused on the problems mainly faced by the construction sector, while emphasizing the potential that Albania has for investors, especially in tourism.
"As for the construction sector, it takes us 3 months to get a building permit in the US, 2 years in the EU and 3-4 months in Albania. There is something that needs to be done faster to change this situation in Europe. Albania has many opportunities to invest in tourism, the banking system, renewable energy. Albania is growing very fast, we see tourism as an opportunity to invest and we are investing in this area."
While other participants in the forum emphasized the fact that Europe must minimize bureaucracies and follow the trend of changes taking place in the world.
Matteo Renzi, former Prime Minister of Italy:
"The Donald Trump administration has changed a lot of things. Tariffs are not a good thing but they can be overcome with bilateral tariffs. Europe should benefit as it is a perfect continent with a large population, but it risks falling into bureaucracy. Europe is a strong player in the field but it needs to wake up and think about the future."
Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar Properties:
"Europe has some strange rules and it needs to change. We want Europe to progress. They say to me, Muhammad, you have a state without democracy, but in fact we have development, developed and educated capital, we have tourism, economy, security and transparency. There is something, America is busy with elections all the time, while Europe is just reconstruction, reconstruction... The world is changing and we need to catch up with the changes"
Forum participants also emphasized the importance of investing in education and embracing technology. Forum discussions focused on areas such as fragmentation and geo-economics, energy security and independence, artificial intelligence and robotics, healthcare, industry and manufacturing, trade, tourism, and innovation in entrepreneurship.
