In 5 years, 2415 self-producers of energy - Growing trend year after year, led by private and family consumers
The number of consumers who self-produce electricity has increased progressively in the last 5 years, reaching 2,415 customers by the end of 2024. According to official data for the period 2020-2024, self-consumers have increased significantly, especially in the last 3 years. More specifically, in 2020, only 59 customers were registered who produced their own energy for their needs, while in 2021 another 115 were added. Meanwhile, the growth was high in 2022 with 625 customers, or 443% more than the previous year. In 2023, another 729 self-producers were added, while the highest number was recorded in 2024, when the applications of 887 customers were approved.
With these approved installations and connected to the electricity grid, the total installed capacity by self-producers has reached 216,823 mWp. Meanwhile, divided by type of client, private individuals lead with 1,645 customers, followed by family members with 705 customers. Also, the data shows that there are 51 state institutions such as municipalities, ministries or educational institutions that have installed solar panels for energy generation, as well as 15 non-budgetary customers, including water supply companies, polyclinics or health centers.
According to the Energy Regulatory Authority, these data reflect a diversification of consumer categories that are investing in renewable energy, supporting the country's commitment to increase energy production from renewable sources and to support the creation of a clean energy environment.
