Postal sector, 2.7 billion lek revenues in 2024 - AKEP: Objects were distributed

The postal market has continued to expand during 2024. The postal sector is an important sector of the Albanian economy and constitutes one of the sectors with the largest number of employees in the country with around 3,297 employees. Employees have increased by 4.3% compared to the previous year. The total number of postal items received during 2024 by the Albanian Post j.a., and other postal service providers was around 25.4 million, with an increase of 10% compared to 2023. 

Based on the reports made by postal service providers that have been operating throughout 2024, it results that these entrepreneurs have generated about 2.7 billion lek in revenue from these services, which constitutes an increase of about 9% compared to the previous period.

The Albanian Post has recorded an increase of 2% compared to 2023, and continues to be the entrepreneur with the largest share of income in the field of postal services provision. It should be noted that the Albanian Post has been determined by decision of the AKEP Steering Council as a provider of the Universal Postal Service, a service from which it also generates the largest share of its income. Throughout 2024, postal service entrepreneurs have invested about 300 million lek in improving the postal service provision infrastructure, which constitutes an increase of about 6% compared to 2023. The largest share of investments was made by the Albanian Post entrepreneurs with about 46%.

Regarding quality standards regarding the delivery time of Universal Service postal items, during 2024, postal items were delivered faster.

According to the Annual Report of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP), 97% of postal items in urban areas were delivered within 1 day of receipt, compared to the targets of 95% and 85% for intra-city and inter-city delivery respectively. For postal items destined for rural areas/villages, 85% of postal items were delivered within 2 days of receipt, compared to the 60% obligation under the AKEP Universal Service Regulation.
