With an eye on defense as an indicator for the strengthening and cooperation of the military sector in Albania. This is the main news that was given from the press conference by the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
"We do not have a large budget and on the other hand we have many needs to fulfill, but we have fulfilled our obligation to the common contract of the Alliance. This is a special moment that has brought to the table the need to invest more and we want to reborn our military army. We have started to do this by increasing the budget for the country. But seeing that now the general spirit is that budgets will increase, companies from all over Europe come to us, offering us cars... It is something that shows that the issue is not how much money we make available, but how we use that money. France has a fulfilled army, but we still have a lot to do. We need a more coordinated plan and with a guarantee of efficiency, for the use of the money that needs to be used. A few weeks ago I had a conversation with the CEO of one of the largest military companies and he told me that he visited a country that has bought endless weapons, but that they have unopened, and this is not a strengthening of defense.
"We must work for a more efficient defense system. Europe cannot turn into a territory where only weapons and war are talked about, as there are two territories to protect, the physical and the spiritual, " said the head of the Albanian government.
Meanwhile, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, stressed that European countries should invest 3.5% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from their state budgets, as it is a very important pillar for security in Europe.
"France has the most efficient army in Europe. We have a concrete army, we have nuclear deterrence capacity, operational experience in the Middle East, Africa, etc. We continue to increase this budget for the coming year. We need to analyze the challenges we face and have a good level of commitment. We need to reinforce this pillar of NATO. We are pleased to have America's support. Our American allies are asking us to take charge of our defense, and this is legitimate. We need to invest more to form ourselves, to equip ourselves more and to build an industrial base that reinforces our autonomy. 3.5% of GDP is good in the future, but it cannot be done in 6 months, " the French president said during his speech.
In recent months, several agreements have been signed to strengthen international security with Albania, the latest case being between Albania, Croatia and Kosovo.
