Over the last five years, Albania has significantly reduced public debt by about 21 percentage points, a figure significantly higher compared to Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo.
At the end of December 2025, domestic debt represented 59.4% of the Central Government's debt stock, while external debt accounted for 40.6% of it.
Regarding the average cost of domestic debt, during the period January - December 2025 the weighted average yield of Government securities decreased, reaching 4.23%, compared to 4.56% at the end of 2024.
The average cost of external debt for 2025 also decreased, reaching 3.53% from 3.70% in 2024.
Risk indicators have also improved. Average life expectancy increased to 2.8 years (or 1001 days) at the end of 2025, compared to 2.6 years (or 923 days) at the end of 2024. The share of foreign currency debt decreased to 40%, compared to around 42% at the end of 2024.
Undoubtedly, these are important indicators, which indicate, among other things, the current situation of the Albanian economy and its sustainability in the medium term.
