Durrës, towards a contemporary tourist destination - ADF, investment of over 540 million lek for the transformation of the coastline

The Albanian Development Fund has announced the opening of the third phase of the competition for investments in the infrastructure of markets, multifunctional spaces, commercial streets in model development areas, as well as interventions to increase the tourist offer and for the functional and aesthetic improvement of the coast in Durrës. The fund limit reaches 540 million and 893 thousand lekë.
Referring to the document in the Public Procurement Agency, the area in which the project will be implemented extends from the Dajlan Bridge to Kavalishenca. This project aims to transform the coastline of the city of Durrës into a contemporary tourist, recreational and urban destination, through planned architectural and urban interventions. The project includes the expansion of the existing beach, the creation of a linear green park along the sea line, the development of multifunctional public spaces and the integration of new recreational and sports infrastructure.
The area plays an important role in the economic and social life of the city and the existing infrastructure offers opportunities for improvements, which would increase the quality of experience for residents and visitors. The passage spaces extend regularly along the coastline, but in some segments these connections are interrupted or insufficient to cope with the high flows during the tourist season, creating loads at the entry points. Therefore, dedicated crossings for bicycles and pedestrians will be created, which will increase the ease of movement and safety in the area.
Parking lots are distributed along the main axis and at several strategic points near the main entrances to the promenade. The current parking capacity is limited in relation to demand, which often leads to overloading of the road infrastructure. According to the project, underground parking lots or satellite parking lots connected to public transport will be built, which will help in more efficient traffic management in this area of strategic tourist importance.
Meanwhile, non-standardized interventions and a lack of clarity between public and private areas have been observed on the public beach. Through this project, the aim is to standardize urban equipment and lighting signage. These interventions will create a more aesthetic and accessible environment for everyone.
To meet the demands of the community and visitors, the investment includes a wide range of recreational spaces and public services, such as: an outdoor cinema; spaces for cultural events, public activities and festivals; a network of restaurants, beach bars and gastronomic spaces; sports centers, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and children's activities, with a focus on relaxation, well-being and tranquility.
Among other things, the following will be built: pavilions adapted for services, recreation and information; terrazzo benches as social structures, where they are designed as functional and decorative seating elements throughout the park. Also built will be bicycle parking to promote sustainable mobility; observation towers along the entire length of the beach; a platform for a tourist center; a platform for commercial services; a panoramic area for rest and relaxation, the document states.
