"Digitalization of financial infrastructure requires education" - Sejko at the opening of World Money Week: Technology is changing money management

The Bank of Albania has opened the World Money Week with the slogan “Smart Money Talk – 100 Years of National Currency”, which aims to increase financial literacy among children and young people. Also present at the ceremony was the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, who stated that in conditions where the financial infrastructure is increasingly digitalized, financial education is also becoming increasingly important.
"The Albanian monetary and financial system has gone through many transformations. From an economy dominated by the use of physical money, we have gradually moved towards an increasingly advanced financial infrastructure, where electronic payments and digital services are taking on an increasingly important role. Today, at a time when technology is rapidly changing the way we manage money, financial education becomes an increasingly important element. In this context, the activities of Global Money Week 2026 aim to create spaces to learn, discuss and reflect on these topics", said Governor Sejko.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Albanian Banking Association, Spiro Brumbulli, said that World Money Week aims not only to raise awareness and education on financial literacy, but also to protect and secure financial security.
"In this context of Money Week, while we talk about savings, talk about the values of investments, recognize income and expenses, today this is not enough. Today, when technology gives the economy so many opportunities to improve, change, develop and when the banking sector is almost in a completely new model, payments are just a click away, numerous financial applications come to the rescue from opening an account, electronic signature and many other innovations, of course all this knowledge is also accompanied by another very significant requirement, protection, security, the fight against fraudsters and cybercrime", said Brumbulli.
Money Week will be accompanied by a series of open lectures, competitions, educational activities and interactive meetings, where students will have the opportunity to become better acquainted with the world of finance and the importance of careful decision-making.
