Begaj receives new EU ambassador: Albania aims for membership in 2030

The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, received today the new Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, on the occasion of the presentation of her credentials.
During the meeting, Begaj wished the ambassador success in her duty, appreciating the role of the EU Delegation in strengthening relations between Albania and the European Union, as well as in supporting the integration process.
The President emphasized that cooperation between Albanian institutions and the EU Delegation should continue to deepen, with the aim of achieving the strategic objective of Albania's membership in the EU in 2030.
Begaj praised the European Union's political, financial and technical support for reforms in Albania, describing the EU Delegation in Tirana as an important partner in this process.
The meeting discussed the progress of the accession negotiations and Albania's commitment to fulfilling European reforms and standards. The Head of State underlined that the country is at an advanced stage of the integration process and that there is the political and institutional will to continue fulfilling its obligations.
Special attention was also paid to the justice reform, which Begaj praised as one of the main proofs of Albania's determination to meet European standards.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the independence and integrity of justice institutions and intensifying the fight against corruption.
The President emphasized that membership in the European Union remains a national objective, widely supported by Albanian society.
"Albania is committed to fulfilling its strategic objective of membership in the European Union in 2030. The involvement of the entire Albanian society in the realization of this ambition and its enthusiasm for this process are a feature that differentiates us and encourages us to work even harder to achieve this objective," said Begaj.
During the meeting, Albania's full harmonization with the European Union's Foreign and Security Policy was also assessed.
In conclusion, Begaj expressed confidence that Ambassador Sofia Moreira de Sousa will make an important contribution to advancing Albania-EU relations and the country's European journey.
The President also expressed optimism that, by the end of her mandate, Albania will have joined the European Union.
