New EU Ambassador to Tirana - Sofia Moreira de Sousa officially takes office
The new Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Tirana, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, is expected to take office after the end of the mandate of the Italian diplomat, Silvio Gonzato.
Ambassador De Sousa will first present her Letters of Credence to President Bajram Begaj. The ceremony will also formalize the start of her mandate in Albania.
Moreira de Sousa comes to this post with a consolidated career in European diplomacy. Before being appointed in Tirana, she headed the European Commission Representation in Portugal, while in an earlier stage of her career she represented the European Union as Ambassador to Cape Verde.
Her appointment comes at a time when Albania-EU relations and the European integration process remain among the main issues on the country's political and diplomatic agenda.
