Taxes collect 445 million euros in August - 11.2% increase, tourism and wages impact

The month of August has marked good progress in tax revenue collection. According to preliminary data published by this institution, during the month just passed, total net revenues reached 41.3 billion lek or approximately 445 million euros, exceeding both the plan for the month and the level of the previous year.
Specifically, revenues resulted in 0.5 billion lek, or 1.3% above plan, while compared to August 2025, 4.2 billion lek more were collected, with an increase of 11.2%.
Tax revenues include revenues from net VAT in the country, profit tax, personal income tax, national taxes, which have had positive performance throughout the year.
The main factors driving income growth are related to economic growth, higher business activity, and increased consumption.
Among the items with the highest increase is the Value Added Tax, which is directly related to the increasing consumption of goods and services throughout this month, driven by the influx of tourists and the arrival of emigrants.
Personal income tax constitutes another item with a significant weight in the increase in tax revenues. The positive performance of this item is related, among other things, to the increase in the level of salaries in the public administration and in the private sector, as well as to the measures taken within the framework of the reform against informality.
In this regard, measures to formalize economic activity, including electronic invoicing and intensification of field controls, appear to have contributed to increased income declaration and, consequently, to the expansion of the taxable base.
The submission of the Annual Individual Income Tax Declaration (DIVA 2025) also had a significant impact on the revenues collected. Through this process, individuals who have resulted in tax liabilities have made the relevant payments, contributing to the increase in collections during the period.
In the same vein are the revenues from social security and health insurance, administered by the Tax Administration, which have shown an upward trend in recent months. This performance reflects the effects of the wage reform, as well as the measures taken to reduce wage understatement and formalize labor relations.
Another influential factor is the establishment of reference salaries in several sectors such as tourism, construction and medicine, as well as the increase in the minimum wage, which as of January 1, 2026 has been set at 50 thousand lekë.
