131 MW of energy licensed in 8 months - Solar dominates with 122.3 MW, no new licenses for wind farms

Around 131 MW of new electricity production capacities have been licensed by the Energy Regulatory Authority during the period January-August 2026. According to official data, the new licenses belong to 10 companies, while this year the vast majority of the projected capacities come from solar energy.
In total, 7 companies have received licenses for photovoltaic power plants with a combined capacity of 122.3 MW. The largest project is that of the company “GREENSOL”, with a power of 41.29 MW, which is expected to be built in Mesopotam, Finiqi. It is followed by the 36 MW photovoltaic power plant of “SPV Blue 3”, in Sheq Marinas, Fier, while “PROSOL” has been licensed for another plant of 21 MW, also in this area.
Other photovoltaic capacities have been licensed in Vlashaj, Bulqiza, with a power of 10 MW, as well as another 10 MW project in Sheq Marinas. Meanwhile, two plants with 2 MW each are planned in Topoja and Povelça, Fier.
In addition to solar energy, during the first 8 months of the year, 3 licenses for the production of energy from hydroelectric power plants were also granted, with a combined capacity of 8.8 MW. The projects include the “Bushtrica 1” HPP, with 5,226 MW, “Vinjolli 1”, with 1.84 MW and “Doma”, with a capacity of 1,695 MW.
However, unlike 2025, when after many years a new license for wind energy production was granted, no new wind projects were licensed during the period January-August 2026. Thus, this year's data also confirms the orientation of new investments mainly towards photovoltaic energy.
