Albania challenges the decline in overnight stays in Europe/ They increased by 9.8% in June, while the EU registers a slight "shrinkage"

Tourism in Albania continued to expand in June, outperforming the European average. According to Eurostat data, overnight stays in accommodation facilities in the country increased by 9.8% compared to the same month a year earlier, while in the European Union they fell by an average of 1.88%.
With this result, Albania ranks among the European countries with the highest increase in overnight stays in June. The difference with most European markets is noticeable, as some of the continent's main destinations recorded declines, while Albania continued to attract more tourist nights than a year ago.
The strongest growth in the Eurostat table was recorded by Liechtenstein, with 37.04%, followed by Kosovo with 17.55% and Lithuania with 12.67%. Albania follows with 9.81%, leaving behind Malta with 8.54% and Montenegro with 7.92%.
On the other hand, the sharpest declines were recorded in North Macedonia, with 13.93%, and the Netherlands, with 13.06%. Ireland recorded a decline of 9.87%, Belgium 9.63%, while Croatia 6.08%.
Some of Europe's biggest tourist destinations also saw negative performance. Overnight stays fell by 3.47% in Germany, 1.71% in France and 1.42% in Spain. Italy recorded a slight increase of 0.63%, while Portugal only 0.21%.
INSTAT data reinforces the positive outlook for Albania. In June 2026, the number of visitors accommodated in tourist structures increased by 17% in annual terms. Foreign visitors increased by 20.6%, while their overnight stays increased by 9.2%.
Kosovo accounted for 15% of foreign visitors accommodated in Albania, Italy 14% and Poland 13%, while France and Germany represented 7% each.
