88 million euros in income from salaries and rents - March 2026, exceeding the plan by 24%. Impact, references in several sectors

Albanian citizens have paid around 8.8 billion lek or 88 million euros in personal income tax during March 2026, income that comes mainly from salaries, but also from long-term rentals and those through platforms such as "Airbnb" and "Booking".
According to official data from the Ministry of Finance, this item has exceeded the plan by 24%, confirming a positive performance of budget revenues for this period.
Authorities attribute this increase to the effects of the formalization of the economy and improved tax administration, noting that real income declarations by individuals and businesses have increased. According to the tax administration, this development constitutes a concrete step towards reducing informality and increasing contributions.
The campaigns against informality, undertaken during 2025, seem to have had a significant impact, especially in terms of combating wage underreporting. This has prompted enterprises to increase the level of employee wage reporting.
Likewise, the establishment of reference wages in sectors such as tourism, construction and, more recently, healthcare, considered among the most problematic for informality, has influenced the increase in declared wages and, consequently, in tax paid.
The increase in TAP revenues has also been influenced by the increase in salaries in the public administration over the last two years, where the average salary has exceeded 900 euros, automatically increasing tax liabilities.
Meanwhile, another factor is the expansion of the rental market, especially short-term ones related to the development of tourism. The increase in the number of properties rented out through online platforms has brought more income to individuals and, consequently, more tax paid.
Total income from TAP also includes income from bank interest, however, the largest portion continues to be income from salaries.
Albanian citizens paid 88 million euros in payroll taxes during the month of March 2026. The figure exceeded the plan for the period by 24%. It seems that the main impact was the reference salaries set in several sectors.
