Warning for travel to Italy and Greece: Aviation strikes will affect flights!

Air travel faces disruption in Europe this week as aviation workers threaten to walk out. Strikes are planned for today, April 9, in Italy and Greece, which could affect families planning trips ahead of the Easter holiday.

Travelers are advised to regularly check flight status and prepare for possible delays and cancellations.

Italy: EasyJet flight attendants strike

EasyJet flight attendants affiliated with Italian unions (FILT, CGIL and UIL) are scheduled to strike on April 9 from 10:30 to 14:30 CET. The industrial action is expected to affect some flights to and from Milan and Naples airports.

"We would like to assure customers that we are doing everything possible to minimise any disruption as a result of the strike action and if any flights are affected, we will contact customers directly with their options to help rearrange their plans ," the airline told British newspaper The Independent.

Greece: Air traffic controllers plan departures

The Italian industrial action comes on the same day as strikes in Greece, potentially worsening travel disruption across the continent. Greek air traffic controllers have planned a 24-hour strike called by the public sector workers' federation ADEDY on April 9.

ADEDY demands the reinstatement of holiday bonus wages, increases in real wages, and measures to combat the housing crisis in Greece.

“Unfortunately, air traffic control in Greece is in a bad situation as we have a lack of personnel and equipment problems which have caused many delays in recent years and will cause many more this year,” the Greek Air Traffic Controllers Association told The Independent.

According to Greek media, the group added that staff will limit the handling of departing flights to medical and search and rescue services, humanitarian aid and military flights and emergencies.

This means that commercial flights to and from the country will bear the brunt of the disruption. Travelers are advised to check flight status regularly and prepare for delays and cancellations.
