"EU integration only through reforms" - Kallas: We need cooperation with all parties, Rama: Let's close negotiations in 2027
“Albania has its place in the European Union, but there is no shortcut other than implementing reforms.” From Tirana, the EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, reiterated several times the need not only to undertake reforms, but also to implement them.
She also answered the question about the party that could join our country, emphasizing that the integration process requires the cooperation of all parties.
Meanwhile, Rama reiterated the ambition to complete the negotiations by 2027.
"I come from a country that has completed its journey towards the EU and is already a member state and it is clear that in this journey, there must in fact be cooperation from all parties because this requires some very difficult reforms that must be fully implemented and for this support, full support is needed. What I understand here is that in Albania all citizens have given their support, their support for Albania's journey and its membership in the EU, so a broad support and this is something that Albanians want to achieve and for this difficult reforms are needed that require the support of everyone in society, because this is the ultimate objective, so not only simply the reforms, but also their implementation which requires the full support of political parties", - said Kallas.
"Of course, our part is to conclude the negotiations successfully, by the end of 2027. We are very prepared to do this and we are working every day for this. The ambition is to open all chapters within the year and I repeat when I say ambition, it is not our ambition, it is part of the agreed plan and the moment all this becomes reality, there is no obstacle," said Rama.
In addition to the membership process and financial support from the EU, the focus of discussions during the meeting in Tirana was also developments in the region, while it was emphasized that cooperation in the security sector is deepening.
