Dairy "bears the burden of prices"/ Inflation rises to 2.1% in March. Entertainment continues to cost more
Inflation in the country for the month of March has reached a value of 2.1%, from 1.9% recorded in the second month of the current year. Meanwhile, the decline is recorded if we compare the value with the same month of 2024, which was estimated at 2.3%. But, despite this, the data show that some groups have undergone significant changes regarding this indicator.
If we talk about the contribution of the main groups, the data show an unchanged situation, where with a negative impact we find only transport with 0.15 percentage points. The annual increase in prices in March was mainly influenced by the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" with 1.04 percentage points, followed by the group "Furniture, household appliances and home maintenance" with 0.26 percentage points.
If we turn to the annual changes of the groups, we see that compared to March 2024, the largest price increase is observed in the “Entertainment and culture” group with 7.4%, followed by the “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” groups with 4.4%. If we analyze the average inflation for the entertainment group, we see that in the time frame of one year, the month of March records the highest rate. If we analyze the subgroups for entertainment and culture, we see that the highest inflation is recorded for books and school supplies and for entertainment and culture services.
The group “Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance” followed with an increase of 3.5%, “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” and “Clothing and footwear” with 3% each, “Hotels, cafes and restaurants” with 1.9%, “Communication” with 1.5%, “Miscellaneous goods and services” with 1.3%, “Rent, water, fuel and energy” and “Educational services” with 0.9% each, “Health” with 0.6%. On the other hand, the prices of the “Transport” group decreased by 2.5%.
Within the food group, prices of the subgroup "milk, cheese and eggs" increased by 4.6%, followed by the subgroups "vegetables including potatoes" by 4.0%, "meat" by 3.3%, "sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and pastries" by 1.2%, "fish" by 0.1%, etc.
Dairy appears to be experiencing the same figures since February 2024, when inflation for this subgroup was estimated at 4.7%. Over the 13 months, March records record inflation for dairy and eggs.
