Trump, ready for war - Approves attacks on Iran, but hesitates to give final order
United States President Donald Trump has reportedly approved plans to attack Iran but is not giving the final order on whether to strike or not, to give Iran time to back down and give in to his demands, according to a senior Trump aide.
Trump has repeatedly called on Iran to surrender unconditionally and abandon its nuclear program. The Middle East conflict, now in its seventh day, has claimed the lives of dozens of Israelis and hundreds of Iranians so far.
Asked if Washington plans to join Israel in attacking Iran, Trump gave a blunt answer, saying "I might, I might not." He has even suggested that assassinating Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is still an option. The 47th US president claims he knows where Khamenei is hiding, but is not interested in killing him "right now."
In a recorded speech, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has rejected the US president's calls for surrender, vowing to continue the attacks and promising to carry out an intensive "punitive operation" against Israel.
In the early hours of Thursday, the Israeli military warned people to evacuate the area around the reactor in Arak, Iran. The warning came in a social media post on the X network and included a satellite image of the plant in a red circle.
The Israeli military said Thursday's initial round of airstrikes targeted Tehran and other areas in Iran, without giving details. It later said Iran had fired a new barrage of missiles toward Israel and warned the public to take shelter.
