Tourism significantly increases domestic consumption - Budget collects 73

Tourism has started well this year, even though we are at the beginning of the season, giving clear signals of increased consumption in the country.

Albanian citizens but also foreign tourists have shown a tendency to spend more on products and services during the period January-May 2025.

Official data from the Ministry of Finance show that revenues from Value Added Tax are the item with the most positive performance among tax revenues in the first 5 months of the year.

Specifically, revenues from VAT collected (net) were realized in the amount of 30.5 billion lek, 7.3 billion lek or 31.5% more than the period January - May 2024.

Also, 3.1 billion lek were collected or 11.5% more than the plan for the period. Reimbursements given for the period January - May 2025 amount to 6.8 billion lek.

Among the factors that have influenced this performance is the gradual increase in the number of tourists in our country, who, in addition to their interest in coastal areas, have had an increased interest in historical and mountainous areas. Given that low-cost airlines offer cheap ticket prices, various agencies organize bus trips and tours for tourists, and weather conditions have been favorable, tourism has continued to produce high consumption.

Another factor that has influenced this positive revenue performance has been the salary reform in the administration, where from July 1, 2024, salaries were increased again for a number of categories paid from the state budget, thus giving citizens many opportunities to spend. This reform has also put the private sector in motion by indirectly encouraging wage movements, which has also led to increased consumption.

On the other hand, a more stabilized inflation rate throughout this year has been reflected in more consumption.
