"Doubling public spaces on beaches" - Kumbaro, from Durrës: Cooperation with the Police for any violation
The fundamental change in the beach regulations doubles the number of public spaces, but also increases the responsibilities of institutions for the smooth running of the season. The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, has inspected the coastline of Durrës, to see the problems at the beginning of the season.
"We will not have public beaches at the beginning or end of Durrës, but interrupted so that vacationers can access them in different segments, because it is a very long coastline. On the other hand, the cooperation of the State Police with the Municipal Police and the National Coastal Agency must be strengthened in order to prevent the occupation of beaches, but also in terms of cleanliness, because it has to do with environmental crime. We will use all measures, from awareness and education, but also measures related to attracting attention and fines. In addition to residents, there are also problems with businesses and restaurants that throw garbage in unforeseen places, so the police must be attentive to these gestures", said Kumbaro.
The "Clean Beaches" operation has been launched since June 15, through which the National Coastal Agency supports 8 coastal municipalities in cleaning beaches.
"This year, we are extending the clean beaches operation to the entire coast, from Velipoja to Ksamil, where the National Coastal Agency and the relevant municipalities are doubling their forces, means, bins and human capacity. We will be on the territory 24 hours a day, but we cannot succeed without the cooperation of businesses and all citizens. In addition to cleaning and emptying bins, there will be disinfection and washing of places where waste accumulates, promenades, roads, public spaces, and we have more work this year due to the exponential increase in public beaches," she said.
According to the Mayor, Emiriana Sako, from the beach area in Durrës to the Agai Stream, there are 266 fragmented public beach plots, which, according to her, are expected to increase after June 30, when the conclusion of contracts with private entities ends and those plots for which no application has been made will automatically become public spaces.
