Albania above Europe, but below the region/ Inflation reaches 2.3% in May, with

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, which measures price increases according to the methodology of the 'European Statistical Agency', in May 2025 was recorded at 2.3%, thus establishing a lower rate, compared to April of the same year. On the other hand, inflation according to 'INSTAT' for the same period was 2.2%. We emphasize that the measurement methodology is the same with both methods, but the differences between these two measurements come as a result of the weight given to each group of products in the calculation of inflation.

Official data shows that the average inflation in Europe is estimated at 2.2% and Albania is seen positioned above this limit for the month of May, which means that currently prices in our country are higher than the European average. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the countries with the highest price rate in Europe during May this year are Romania with 5.4%, Estonia with 4.6% and Montenegro with 4.5%. Switzerland meanwhile registers a decrease in prices for May.

If we analyze price increases by country in the region, the figures show that Albania is positioned relatively well compared to some of its neighbors in the region, including Kosovo, where for the month of May it recorded a price increase rate of 3.6%.

Inflation in North Macedonia is estimated at 4.1% in the fifth month of the current year, followed by Serbia with a rate of 3.9%.

If we analyze the change by groups, the data shows that the largest price increase of 8.4% is observed in the “Entertainment and culture” group, followed by the “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco” groups with 3.6%, “Furniture, household equipment and maintenance” with 3.4%. On the other hand, the “Hotels, cafes and restaurants” groups increased by 3.1%, “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” and “Educational services” by 1.8% each, “Clothing and footwear” by 1.7%, “Communication” by 1.5%, “Miscellaneous goods and services” by 1.3%, “Health” by 1.1%, “Rent, water, fuel and energy” by 0.8%. On the other hand, the prices of the “Transport” group decreased by 0.9%.
