Distribution of free books for 236 thousand students in the country begins - Rama: Annual support for children and their families
The distribution of free books to 236,000 students across the country has begun today. Prime Minister Edi Rama, through a post on social media, says that this is an annual support for children.
"And with the launch of the distribution of free textbooks to 236 thousand students across the country, an annual support from the Government for children and their families on the eve of the new school year, I wish you a good week," writes Prime Minister Rama.
This free book support program is focused on students who come from families with social and economic problems, as well as those who need special support, including children with disabilities, as well as those from minorities and ethnic minorities.
All educational institutions have been instructed on how to proceed with the collection or hoarding of textbooks that were used during the previous year. They have set up a special commission in each school to assess the condition of the books.
The distribution of textbooks will continue until September 7, one day before the start of the new school year. On September 8, schools across the country will open their doors for basic and upper secondary education, while the academic year will end on June 12, 2026. For high school graduates, the school year ends on May 29, as they will take state exams from June 1–26. Registration for first and tenth grades in e-Albania will continue until August 31, according to an official announcement from the Ministry of Education.
According to INSTAT data, during the 2024-2025 school year, 405,989 students were enrolled in pre-university education, including: 65,914 children in preschool education; 250,617 students in 9-year education; 88.1% in public schools and 48% of them are girls.
