Card withdrawals, 150 new ATMs installed - BoA: Around 95% of ATMs in the country only offer cash withdrawal services
Commercial banks are increasingly expanding their ATM network in the country. Currently, there are a total of 1,214 ATMs in Albania for transferring, withdrawing and depositing money. The figures show a 14% increase in ATMs compared to the last quarter of 2024. In the April-June period alone, 150 new ATMs were added in Albania.
According to official data from the Bank of Albania, about 95% of ATMs serve for cash withdrawals, almost 34% serve for deposits, while 25% of ATMs also include the function of transfer orders. In other words, in Albania there are about 1164 ATMs for cash withdrawals, 414 with a deposit function, while 307 have the function of transfer orders.
Regarding the number of transactions carried out at ATMs in the first half of the year, the figures show 11.7 million card withdrawals and deposits of money through ATMs, where almost 11 million operations were only for withdrawals, while 809 thousand were deposit transactions. On the other hand, in terms of the value of transactions, the amount withdrawn by Albanians in the first half of the year was recorded at 192 billion lek.
From the first quarter to the second, there has been a very small increase in ATMs that, in addition to the cash withdrawal service, also offer deposit and transfer order services. Despite the fact that ATMs that also include cash deposits have increased in recent years, their number still remains very small compared to those that also serve for withdrawals. There are still some second-tier banks that do not include cash deposits in their ATMs, a service that is highly requested by citizens, which sometimes forces them to wait in long lines at banks to carry out this simple transaction.
Increasing the number of ATMs in the country, especially in rural areas, increases the financial inclusion of the population and citizens' access to financial services.
