Greece recorded significant growth in tourism revenues in the first half of 2025. This growth came mainly thanks to higher spending by visitors from Germany, France and Italy.

Italian, French and German tourists have chosen Greece this summer, according to the latest data published by the Bank of Greece. The statistics show that tourism revenues increased by 8.8 percent in June 2025 and by 11.0 percent in the first six months of the year, compared to the same periods in 2024.

More specifically, revenues from EU travelers increased by 5.5 percent, reaching 1.74 billion euros, while revenues from non-EU visitors expanded by 12.0 percent to 1.40 billion euros.

This was mainly supported by a 13.5 percent increase in spending by eurozone visitors, which reached €1.41 billion in June 2025, compared to €1.24 billion the previous year.

The main contributors were German tourists, who increased spending by 18.6 percent, reaching nearly 595 million euros, while French travelers increased by 19.9 percent, to about 192 million euros. Italy also recorded a significant increase of 25.7 percent, with total spending of 180 million euros.

Visitors from the United Kingdom spent 3.0 percent more, reaching just over 600 million euros, while American tourist spending increased by 64.7 percent, to around 247 million euros. Meanwhile, revenues from Russian visitors shrank to 1.8 million euros.

In the first half of 2025, total tourism earnings increased by 11.0 percent compared to the same period in 2024, reaching around 7.66 billion euros. The figures were mainly driven by a 10.2 percent expansion in average travel spending, despite a 1.7 percent decline in the number of incoming visitors. Net earnings from tourism services offset 94.4 percent of Greece's merchandise trade deficit.
