Wind energy “flies” in 2025 - Global installations grow by 64% in the first half of the year

Global wind power installations increased by 64% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to the latest report from the World Wind Energy Association. The report predicts that 2025 will be a record year for new plants.
In total, 72.2 GW of new capacity was added between January and June, compared with 44.1 GW installed in the first half of last year. At the end of June, total installed wind capacity reached 1.25 TW, with this resource now providing around 12% of global demand.
“Driven by strong growth in China and steady expansion in key markets, wind power is on track for a record year. With 150 GW of capacity expected to be installed by 2025 and the global total set to exceed 1.3 TW, this resource continues to play a central role in the global renewable energy transformation,” the report notes.
China continues to lead global installations. In the first six months of the year, the Asian superpower installed 51.4 GW, compared to 25.8 GW in the same period in 2024. The country's total capacity reached over 600 GW.
Five other countries recorded over 1 GW of new installations: India (3.5 GW), the United States (2.1 GW), Germany (1.9 GW), France (1.7 GW) and Brazil (1.3 GW).
"The addition of new global capacity demonstrates the resilience of the sector and the confidence that governments, investors and communities continue to have in wind energy as a cornerstone of sustainable progress," experts emphasize.
